Davis Methods are based on the universal law of cause and effect, whereas confusion causes disorientation of which the effect is misperceptions that lead to learning and/or social difficulties. The Davis Methods are have been woven into a group of programs developed to help to train the three-dimensional, non-verbal thinker how to control his/her perceptions so as to be confident that the information that is brought in by the senses is accurate. When one is confused, confidence is diminished which is at the core to the dyslexics problems. They are never sure if what they see or hear is accurate. Often the sense of time and motion is also involved. The Davis Methods train a motivated individual to control this propensity to disorient and then helps them identify the things in their environment (sounds, symbols, words) that cause confusion to happen. Rather than a phonological based program, Davis® Methods are a group of language based program focused on teaching the full meaning of the words and concepts that most often trigger this disorientation--prepositions, adverbs, pronouns, verbs/verb tenses; change, consequence-cause-effect, before-after-time, sequence, order-disorder. This is done using clay which allows the brain to focus on the strength of the dyslexic - 3-dimensional thinking and activate the working memory that has been thwarted by uncontrolled disorientation. As far as cost, it is not much more than a well-paid tutor. The difference is that the program is presented to motivated individuals who see change quickly because it addresses their basic needs right away. If a student comes to a Davis Facilitator not having been exposed to quality reading instruction, the student may still require teaching/tutoring in these areas. But by using their Davis® tools, the teaching will be efficient and effective.
