Celebrating a Miracle [my son] used the "beeper" (sound device) last night for THREE (3) hours and finished *all* his assigned homework! For the first time this year, he has no Fs on his report card! - from the parent of a high school student who struggles with executive functioning skills.
Almost Immediate Effect The sound device had an almost immediate effect on my daughter and how grounded she felt. Within a few minutes of putting it on for the first time, she got a big smile on her face and said, "Wow! I like this!" Her anxiety causes a lot of irritability because she feels like she is losing control. For a 12 year old, not being able to control other people can be frustrating enough, at times, but feeling like you have no control over yourself is scary. She tells me she would rather be mean when she feels this way because it's less embarrassing than crying in front of people. Over the past 6 weeks, I have seen her wearing it to accomplish things she has struggled with in the past. She hasn't worn it all the time, but I would see her put it on when she got home from school to help her stay on task while completing her homework. She wore it on Saturday mornings while we worked on household chores. She put it on at night when she had trouble falling asleep. When she was worried about a test, she would wear it to school that day. She took it on road trips, which can be a struggle because the road noise and being in a confined space for an extended period of time can be very overwhelming for her. On one occasion, when she was struggling with her anxiety, I asked her if there was anything I could do to help and she said she just needed to put on her necklace. Being able to recognize things she has struggled with and things she needs extra help with has allowed her to utilize this tool in an effective way. I believe having this level of self-awareness would benefit any user in increasing the efficacy of this device. -mother of 12-year-old daughter who purchased for home-use
Efficient and Effective Writing Last fall I was in ultimate panic mode trying to get my thoughts into a PowerPoint presentation. This presentation was already written in my head but somehow I had to make the slides reflect the picture in my mind. Generally a situation like this results in hours of creating and recreating, looking for the perfect result. It definitely is overwhelming. BUT that was not the ending to this story this time!! The SOUND DEVICE came to the rescue! The sound of the chime kept me present and helped clear my head so that the process of creating the PowerPoint presentation became easy- and I learned the secret of efficient and effective writing. -professional educator with ADHD
